“FAUX”-LIAGE: Add some autumnal touches to the nooks and crannies of your home with silk autumn leaves and artificial, harvest colored florals that can be found at your local craft store. Use them to embellish book cases, counter tops and side tables to create a colorful fall look, while spicing up any dull, lack-luster areas. You can even frame your foliage to brighten and fill wall space.
PUMPKINS, PLEASE: Pumpkins serve as fantastic decor to bring a little “fall fever” into the various rooms of your home. Use them as a centerpiece for your dining room table, place them on your front porch or in the windowsills, use them to liven up your fireplace mantel, place them on the steps of your staircase or simply use them to fill empty spaces! Get creative by spray painting or designing your pumpkins with personal touches to match your home’s personality.
KEEP IT WOODSY and WHIMSICAL: Looking to try something a little different? Pine cones, pheasant feathers, branches & twigs and ceramic or artificial owls can add a whole other element to the meaning of fall in your home. Give your interior a rustic and more earthy feel this season by placing pine cones in dishes and vases on your coffee and side tables, dressing your mantelpiece and counter-tops with pheasant feathers, and using twigs and branches to create wreathes or centerpieces. Owl sculptures and decor placed throughout the home will complete this organic and woodsy look. autumn 1
MIMIC THE TREES : Each season brings a new set of colors and in the fall, it is the trees that alert us of the new time of year as their leaves beautifully transform and change colors. Take a similar approach with your home decor by swapping out “summer colors” for fall ones. You can do so by simply changing the color scheme of your throw pillows, bed spreads, blankets, even the textiles you use in the kitchen such as your place mats and kitchen towels. Bring out the dark, earthy and rich fall shades to help characterize your indoor spaces with a fall look.
PAPER CRAFTS: Head to your local craft store and stock up on paper goods and other craft materials. Make a fun, fall-inspired banner to hang from your mantelpiece, frame decorative paper to use as wall art, or use glitzy chipboard letters to create various signs with fall words and phrases to place in and around the house. This is an inexpensive and creative way to give your home some fall flare!
